Built in 1872 by Lieutenant Coaker, this roughly 1 km paved path runs along a steep ridge on Kodaikanal's southern edge, starting near Van Allen Hospital and ending by St. Peter's Church. On a clear day, the view stretches to Dolphin's Nose, the Pambar River valley, and as far as Periyakulam and Madurai.

Safety precautions

  • The path is fenced along the cliff edge, but stay within the marked walkway at all times
  • Surfaces get slick in rain and fog — footing is less secure than it looks on a misty day

Know before you go

  • Entry is ₹10 per person; cameras cost ₹30 extra, and the telescope house is a separate ₹30
  • Visit before 2:30 PM if you want a clear view — afternoon mist rolls in and can block the valley entirely

Local warnings

  • Views are weather-dependent — on cloudy or heavy monsoon days, the valley may not be visible at all
  • Parking right at the walk is very limited; you may need to park a short walk away

Practical tips

  • 6:00–8:30 AM gives the clearest views and the smallest crowds
  • It gets windy and cold on the ridge even when the town feels mild — carry a jacket
