Originally called Devil's Kitchen for the mist that rises through its deep rock crevices like steam, this site near Pillar Rocks was renamed Guna Caves after the 1991 Tamil film shot here. The narrow fissures run deep between the rocks, and after a history of fatal falls, authorities fenced off the crevices — visitors can no longer enter, only view them from a safe distance.

Safety precautions

  • Entry into the crevices themselves is not permitted — official records link over a dozen deaths to falls here before fencing was installed
  • Do not cross the safety fencing for photos, even where gaps look accessible
  • Keep children within arm's reach near the viewing area

Know before you go

  • You can only view the crevices from the fenced platform — the deep sections are permanently sealed off
  • Entry fee is a nominal ₹10 per person, collected by the forest department

Local warnings

  • Paths get slippery and risky during monsoon (Jun–Aug) — many guides recommend avoiding this site that season entirely
  • Monkeys in the area can be aggressive around food — keep snacks out of sight and don't feed them

Practical tips

  • Wear shoes with good grip — the surrounding terrain is rocky and uneven
  • Pillar Rocks is right next to Guna Caves, making it an easy add-on to the same trip
