Named after engineer Sir Thomas Moir, who began building the Goschen Road here in 1929, Moir Point sits at the entrance to the forest route leading toward Berijam Lake. A memorial pillar marks the spot, and the viewing platform looks out over the valley and surrounding hills, with the Vaigai Dam visible in the distance on a clear day. It also marks the start of the scenic "Forty Mile Round" loop toward Kodaikanal's quieter western side.

Safety precautions

  • The approach road has narrow forest stretches and sharp bends with frequent fog — daytime travel is noticeably safer than early morning or dusk

Know before you go

  • Free entry, but Berijam Lake further down the same road requires its own separate forest permit — Moir Point itself needs none
  • Fog can reduce visibility here even when the town looks clear — check conditions before making the drive specifically for the view

Local warnings

  • One of Kodaikanal's most crowded stops between 10:30 AM–2:30 PM, when sightseeing taxis cluster here — parking space is limited during that window
  • Avoid June–September: frequent rain, slippery roadside conditions, and fog that often blocks the valley view entirely

Practical tips

  • Arrive before 10:30 AM to beat both the crowds and the fog
  • It's a quick roadside stop rather than a destination on its own — works best combined with a Berijam Lake or Pine Forest trip along the same road
