Pillar Rocks is a set of three granite boulders standing shoulder to shoulder, each around 400 feet tall, managed by the Tamil Nadu Forest Department. A small garden and shaded viewing platforms sit near the base, with fenced sections overlooking the valley. The gap between the pillars is the site known as Devil's Kitchen / Guna Caves. The former trek to the top of the rocks is now closed to visitors.

Safety precautions

  • Stay within the fenced viewing boundaries — the area has steep drops close to the edge
  • Keep children away from the fencing rather than right up against it
  • Paths get slippery in monsoon; move carefully near the viewing edge in wet weather

Know before you go

  • Fog can fully cover the rocks and valley view even during normal visiting hours — this happens often enough that a clear view isn't guaranteed
  • Alcohol is prohibited on site

Local warnings

  • One of the more crowded stops in Kodaikanal, especially 10:30 AM–2:30 PM on weekends and holidays, when tour groups arrive in bulk

Practical tips

  • Go right after opening for the best odds of a clear, uncrowded view before both fog and crowds build up
  • Carry a light jacket — it's noticeably windier and cooler here than in town
